Work in progress - August 2010

News:
Okay, so the front page hasn't been updated for a few weeks, well apologies to that but things have been kinda hectic. Issues on the work front, a lot of university course work needing doing and now we're leading up to Christmas! Things may seem a little slow this month, but never fear, we're still working hard behind the scenes, so it's time for a little update.

Firstly, i'm sure you've noticed that the site seems a little more Christmassy with the new temporary background, and with our more focused game plans, the layout of the front page has also changed a little, and will very shortly be featuring snippets from the art galleries, game story information, game rule clips and something to get you all excited about... Our new free of charge (yes free) Collectable Card Game! This will take some time to create, as we shall be using completly original artwork, our artists only have a certain amount of time ont their hands, so you'll need to be a little patient. The wait should be worth it! You can find out more about the CCG in the games section.

There ofcourse other updates which have been scattered around the site, but if I tell you all about them here, then you might not visit the page related to them, instead, maybe you'll like to explorer the site a little to see what you can find!

KRSWell, this week game design has come to a crunch, after long discussions with Shawn, we've decided on the approach that will get our games out to the masses. I've had to tell myself of somewhat for being slightly too imaginiative, yes the ideas are great, but we really need to focus on certain projects rather than have a list as long as.. as long as.. well as long as somethign that is really long! The key thing we have deicided on it to initially release something that you guys out there can immediantly connect with. Yes the world of Seven Moons we had been designed was brimming full of excellence, it was decided that the game was not going to be very search engine friendly. To get people interested in our games, and finding our website through search engines we have opted for a new approach for our initial release. The KRS Ruleset is still going to be free as promised, so no worries there. The thing that has changed is our initial planned release...

We're very pleased to announce that we are creating a batch of science fiction / fantasy crossover games under a main title of Far Space. FS is the generic term for the titles under this, the first of which will be called Olympus, a recreation of the Myths and Legends of Ancient Greece in a space setting. We have very big plans for Olympus, and have already got plans for numerous quests and adventures to be associated with it.

I've had some comments from people that the ruleset is taking its time with development, but guys, you'll have to sit tight, if something is worth doing, its worth doing well, just be a little more patient eh?

To hopefully help build up your anticipation for FS Olympus, we're creating a series of tests to try out the KRS combat system, and what better way than to have this set in a Gladiators Arena in our new game setting. The setting of the Arena will be partly free of cost, the initial game files and rules for arena fighting (whilst we test the game) will be free, and you'll be able to progress a fair way within it. However, if you want to have the entire kit and kaboodle for an entire arena campaign creator then that will have to be purchased in due course.

Far Space: Olympus: Blood Rites of Ares will be a dream combat games for both roleplayers and wargamers alike. To find out more watch this space!

Regarding other issues, you'll notice some little updates here and there around the site. Some new pictures in the gallery (see the vault), a new short story from Mike, and some little graphical bits here and there, as you can see from the top of this page i've been dabbling with a bit of flash, hopefully i'll get better at it in the future.

KRSFirstly Apologies for what may have seemed a lack of site updates, I had infact been working on the new version of the the website. I hope you'll agree that this one is a much better improvement.

Anyway, it’s time for that big announcement we have been promising you, Kaevad Games & RPG Nation are very pleased to announce that the Kaevad Ruleset which our games use will be available free of charge! There's only one catch (there always is isnt there?), the free version of the KRS applies only to the downloadable pdf version (when it goes live). If you want any hardcopies (coming in the future) then you'll have to purchase them.

Why have we chosen to do this? Mainly because we have always had one major complaint about the current role playing games on the market. People purchase one copy of a game, play it, and then find it has been updated into a new edition. Now more money has to be spent, but wait another edition is released… What version of AD&D are people playing now anyway?

We know that in the beginning the KRS will require tweaking as it gets paid, and we do not want to have unsatisfied customers. So we thought that if the main rule set was free, we could update it whenever we like, and people can get the updates whenever they liked as well! The KRS will arrive in due course, just sit tight for now.

Other reasons for why is doing this is we really want people to enjoy the games we make, providing the ruleset free of charge will provide a doorway into our worlds, and give people to full tools they need to start creating their own worlds and adventures. We even have plans for people to share their games with others, but more on this another day.

The last reason we’re doing this has to be… well…. We’re just really nice people 8)! Although, I have had to sell a small part of my soul to those who we mustn’t talk about, and you’ll see some game adverts scattered throughout the site to help us meet the website running costs. You should try clicking on some of these games, some of them are actually really good!

Anyway, I look forward to telling you more of our plans later, just remember, things don’t happen over night.

Game Information Snippet
Far Space - Olympus is a science fiction remake of the myths and legends from classic Greek Mythology. However, there are some differences, the Gods (Zeus, Apollo, Athena, Hades etc) are not Gods in our game, they are just normal people, part of the ruling class. The monsters of legend have also been altered to fit our purpose, but you'll have to explore our world to find out more. It is our aim to completly redesign and retell these stories in our own setting. Think of it as a re-invisioned version. The best way to describe it? Well... Think Ulyssess 31, meets Battlestar Galactica (the original series), meets Battlestar Galactica the new series.
For more information see the games page.
